Presentation of Love for Life Association

The Love for Life Association was founded in 2017 by Raluca Ciulei with the aim to support the education of children in Romania. Over time, she was joined by several practitioners in the fields of sports, psychology, computer science, mathematics, etc.

The Love for Life Association offers creatively designed courses and educational activities in tennis and sports, computational thinking and programming, mathematics, AI and robotics; nature-based learning experiences, volunteering opportunities, etc., to children and youth from rural and urban Romania. In addition to learning new skills, the educational experiences, offered over a minimum 3 year spam, aim to develop children's motor, social, emotional and cognitive skills, equip them with adaptive attitudes and virtues, all of which ultimately contribute to character formation (e.g. integrity, respect, self-control, determination, perseverance, willingness to work hard, honesty, inner strength/resilience, courage, responsibility, compassion, loyalty, a proactive attitude, an attitude of doing what they do well, an attitude of observing and reflecting on what they have observed, etc.).

Building Character through Sports (Tennis) | 11.01.2021 - present

The project "Building Character through Sports" consists of offering tennis lessons to a selected group of children for a minimum of 3 years and aims to teach them the sport, improve their motor, social, emotional and cognitive skills, in particular their executive functions (working memory, inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility, analytical reasoning, organizational skills, planning, decision-making, self-regulation); acquire adaptive/functional attitudes and virtues, all these contributing to polishing the athlete's character (ie. self-control, determination, perseverance, desire to put in effort, honesty, fair play, respect, integrity, inner strength/resilience, courage, responsibility, compassion, fairness, etc.). "Ability can get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there." (Wooden & Jamison, 1997)

Results (December 2023): at the end of three years, assessments from DESSA and Yellow-Red indicated a significant correlation between involvement in the tennis project 'Character Development through Sports' and the socio-emotional development, as well as executive functioning (cognitive development) in children.
